A Powerful Exercise To Help You Define Your Massively Transformative Purpose(s) (MTP) And Start Your Journey As A Purpose Driven Leader.

A Powerful Exercise To Help You Define Your Massively Transformative Purpose(s) (MTP) And Start Your Journey As A Purpose Driven Leader.

Let’s start with the basics…

What’s an MTP?
It’s a Massively Transformative Purpose

  • It’s Massively because it should be huge.
  • It’s Transformative because it has the potential to change something (a business, an industry, society, the government, the world)
  • It has Purpose because the WHY behind it is meaningful to you.

MTPs can transport you from the “selfishness” of your passion to a place where you focus on others, outside yourself. A massive transformative purpose must be bigger than you, should be centered around serving others.

So, how do I define my MTPs?

Step 1: Find out what are the things you are curious about.

Make a list of at least 25 things you are curious about: Look for specific things that are not too generic: instead of “cooking” list something about cooking that really excites you, like: “How different cultures cook BBQ around the world”

Here is a list of things I’m personally curious about:
1- How to heal dysfunctional teams. 2- Embracing leadership potential. 3- Building organizations that improve and evolve. 4- Using organizational values to impact all shareholders. 5- Organizations that have a positive impact on everyone around them. 6- Creative financing to unlock growth. 7- Coaching tools and frameworks to empower others. 8- High Performing Leadership Teams. 9- Funnel Conversion Optimization. 10- Creative and Impactful Marketing Strategies. 11- Building Partnerships for the Long Term. 12- Habits Management. 13- Connecting back with nature (personal, and collective). 14- Efficient Urban Gardening. 15- Connecting with nature while camping. 16- How to use words to inspire action. 17- How to build better communities. 18- Space Design based on purpose. 19- Nutrition as a base for success and happiness. 20- Meditation and Altered States. 21- Implementing Practical Innovations. 22- Sustainable construction methods for buildings. 23- Play Arpeggios and Folklore in Acoustic Guitar. 24- Percusionin Flamenco. 25- Life Design. And to be honest there are many more!

Step 2: Map where these curiosities intersect the most and find Passions
Once you have your list is time to find where these curiosities intersect:

For example something like this:

Then you describe each intersection.

For example: Build a restaurant business that serves healthy raw food and has such great live music that makes every client feel great every time they visit it.

Pro tips:
1- One of your curiosities can be in more than one intersection.
2- The more curiosities in one intersection the more intrinsic motivation it will carry inside.

Find many curiosities in one intersection and then it becomes PASSION.

Step 3: Make a List of Problems you would love to solve, ideally between 10 and 15.
These problems should be meaningful to you to the point that they really make you FEEL something when you see them.

As an example, here is my list of when I did this exercise. It was something like this:

Massive Problems I would love to solve:

  • There is less and less space for wildlife to thrive.
  • We are destroying our oceans.
  • We are destroying our Biodiversity in general.
  • Lack of understanding among people “that is different”.
  • So many people live a life by default, unhappy, pessimistic and in the comfort zone. And they feel powerless.
  • Lack of soul and values in many organizations.
  • Many organizations don’t have sustainable practices.
  • Many businesses just care about making money even when they have a negative impact on employees or the community around them.
  • The gap between “top” and “bottom” is getting bigger.
  • Many people are dealing with Mental/Spiritual Health.
  • Many good people feel “trapped by the system” but they continue because they don’t have any other options.
  • The food industry is negatively affecting the lives of millions of people (and pets).

Tip: Try to be as specific as possible.

Step 4: Find intersections between The Problems you would like to solve with things that you are Passionate about.
Connect the PASSIONS from the previous step with different PROBLEMS you really want to solve.

For example:

And describe each one of them:

Build a restaurant business operated by single mothers that serve healthy raw food and has such great live music that makes every client feel great every time they visit it.

Each one of them could be a Massive Transformative Purpose.

Did this exercise help you to find your Purpose? Do you have any questions about it?

We would love to know what is your MTP 💪🏽

Do you know anyone who could benefit from this? Spread the love ❤️
